Hazard Mitigation Plan Status

2022 Plan: We will be kicking off the 2022 Plan very soon.  The planning committee is gathering data and putting together a timeline for the review and update of the plan.  We will be publishing dates that the public and stakeholders can attend input sessions.  Please stay tuned for more information.

2017 Plan: Northumberland County has completed the process of updating the 2017 Hazard Mitigation Plan.  It has been adopted by the County and Approved by FEMA | PEMA.

Important Information:

The Original Plan was completed in 2012.  We, as all counties are, were mandated by FEMA to complete a 5 year update of the plan.  We have tediously worked through the process set fourth by FEMA to reach our final goal of completely overhauling the 2017 plan and meeting all specified requirements.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) requires that a jurisdiction actively participate in the HMP planning process, as well as participate in one planning or public meeting held during the course of the update process, to be eligible to adopt the revised Northumberland County HMP as its own.

As the planning process continues, the County will hold planning committee meetings the 3rd Wednesday of the month each quarter which are open to Municipalities and Businesses to provide input in the planning process, all of which will be held at the County’s Administration Center (399 Stadium Drive, Sunbury Pa 17801) next the football field.

Also during the update process, the County will hold multiple public meetings to that will be open to everyone.  Municipalities, Business, and the public are all encouraged to attend these meetings to voice any input, questions or concerns.

2022 Plan Update Outline

We will be kicking off the 2022 Plan very soon.  The planning committee is gathering data and putting together a timeline for the review and update of the plan.  We will be publishing dates that the public and stakeholders can attend input sessions.  Please stay tuned for more information.

Please keep in mind that this process will more than likely be different than in the past due to COVID-19.  Many of meetings may be virtual or online.  We will still be able to field and answer questions during the meeting though.  We may also be posting the meeting agendas ahead of time for review and be accepted questions or comments ahead of time that we can answer at the meeting for those who might now want to interact during the meeting sessions.
