Mission Statement:

The Northumberland County Planning Commission was formed to provide quality planning services that balance the desire to preserve the uniqueness of the county with the need to improve the economy, ecology, and environment while protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the citizenry. This is accomplished through the dissemination of information, preparation of plans, development of programs, and providing technical services that support and promote the implementation of the Northumberland County Comprehensive Plan.

 

Duties of the Planning Department:

The Northumberland County Department of Economic Development & Planning aims to enhance communities, support municipalities, and foster economic growth. The department oversees the Northumberland County Comprehensive Plan and manages the county’s planning and community development programs. It assists the county’s 36 municipalities with comprehensive planning, zoning, and subdivision and land development regulation. The department also administers grants for various programs and offers multiple support programs for communities.

The department staff develops various functional plans to address community needs, including, but not limited to:

– Community Facilities
– Cultural Heritage
– Natural Resources
– Transportation
