District Attorney Tony Matulewicz III wishes to inform all residents that anyone who lost money to scammers, who told them to pay via Western Union’s money transfer system between 01 January 2004 and 19 January 2017, can now file a claim to get their money back.
- Citizens can file claims online by visiting FTC.gov/WU or by calling 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357). The deadline for filing a claim is 12 February 2018.
- According to the FTC website, this refund program follows a settlement with the Western Union Company, which in January 2017, agreed to pay $586 million to resolve charges brought by the Federal Trade Commission.
- Filing a claim is free and no one associated with the claims process will call to ask for the consumer’s bank account or credit card number.
