District Judge Diehl | District Court #08 – 3 – 02
Magisterial District Justices have the authority to oversee civil cases with monetary disputes up to $12,000 and criminal cases with potential sentences of up to one year in jail.
The Magisterial District Courts commit to just, impartial, efficient, and economical dispute resolution. They value accessibility, fairness, accountability, and community responsiveness. They oversee traffic and other non-traffic summary offenses, as well as landlord-tenant disputes, conduct preliminary arraignments, set bail, and hold preliminary hearings. Magisterial district judges are not required to be lawyers but must complete a training course and receive certification from the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. MDJs are elected for six-year terms and can serve multiple terms until the mandatory retirement age of 75, provided they are retained or re-elected by the electorate.
